The motion operates like this: When yarn, for whatever reason, drops onto its fixed drop bar and then falls into the notches or serrations on the live and movable drop bars, the movement of the movable bar or bars and the rocking lever stops. As the horizontal shaft and the vertical rock shaft keep moving, the actuator on the horizontal shaft will come into contact with the sliding rod that's carried by the rocking lever. It will lift that rod, and through a flexible connection, it will disengage the shipper lever from its retaining notch, thus stopping the machine. There's a yielding connection between the vertical rock shaft and the lower end of the rocking lever. This allows the vertical rock shaft to move while the rocking lever stays still, with its sliding rod in the path of the actuator on the horizontal shaft.
